Keshia Chanté (born as Keshia-Chanté Harper on June 16, 1988), coincidentally the same day as her Idol, Tupac Shakur, is a Canadian R&B singer. She has released one album, and is nominated for two awards at the 2005 Juno Awards. She cites Christina Aguilera and Beyoncé Knowles among her influences and currently resides in Toronto. Harper was born in Ottawa, Ontario, to a Trinidadian father and a Spanish/Portuguese mother. Her first single "Shook (The Answer)" appeared in early 2003. The song broke into the Top 10 on Canadian music charts and won an Urban Music Award for "Best Pop/R&B Single". For the follow-up, "Unpredictable," she released her first video, which hit number one on YTV and the top ten on MuchMusic. In November 2003, it went gold by selling 50,000 copies. In 2003, she won the Canadian Radio Music Award for "Best New Solo Artist". In early May of 2004, Chanté's third single, "Bad Boy", was released. It was also successful, breaking the Top Ten. Her self-titled debut album was released June 22, 2004. On December 3rd, it officially went gold. It contained her previous singles, as well her fourth "Let the Music Take You". In October of 2004, at the Canadian Urban Music Awards, Chanté swept her three nominations, winning awards for "Best New Artist", "Video of the Year" (for Bad Boy), and the "Fans' Choice Award". The month after that, she conducted an interview for BET's Rated Next, which was her first significant appearance on the American media. For Christmas in 2004, she released a cover version of Wham!'s song "Last Christmas". On January 10, 2005, Chanté performed at the Canada for Asia benefit concert for tsunami relief after the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake. She also released for fifth single, "Does He Love Me?" which features Foxy Brown. Her sixth single, "Ring The Alarm," was produced by Philadelphia's Matrax Productions. She was nominated for two awards at the 2005 Juno Awards in the categories of "Best New Artist" and "R&B/Soul Recording of the Year". Her sophomore album is slated to come out later next year. Keshia Chanté posted 3 brand new songs on Myspace in May 2006. They are titled "Been Gone", "Summer Love" and "Kiss". These songs will be on her second album "2U". The first single, "Been Gone", produced by Philadelphia's Matrax Productions, was released in July. On August 24, Keshia shot her video for her new single "Been Gone" in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. It was shot at a school she attended, Fletcher's Meadow Secondary School.
