One of the busiest, most fun-loving, (and quite honestly, one of the nicest) people in broadcasting, Marilyn Denis is the co-host of "Roger, Darren & Marilyn", weekday mornings on 104.5 CHUM FM in Toronto. A dominating presence in Toronto radio for more than 20 years, Marilyn’s quick wit, knowledge and charm have made her a favourite among Toronto radio and TV fans. For 19 years, Denis hosted the popular daily show "CityLine" on City TV.
Born in Edmonton, raised in Pittsburgh, Marilyn competed with three sisters for the attention of her parents. A fan of radio station KDKA in Pittsburgh, Marilyn was determined to pursue a career in the medium that she loved. After earning a Bachelour of Science (Radio/TV) at the University of Idaho, Marilyn became the first female DJ at KRPL in Moscow, Idaho.
After moving to Calgary, she branched out as a programmer and Music Director (and on-air personality) at CHFM in Calgary. At the same time, she joined CJAY as an Announcer and Traffic Reporter while also reporting on sports, weather and entertainment at CFCN-TV and working as a freelance reporter for TSN.
Around the time Marilyn moved to Toronto, CHUM FM began an exhaustive search for a co-host for morning man Roger Ashby. After interviewing dozens of broadcasters and actresses, Marilyn breezed into CHUM FM in July 1986. After chatting with her for a few brief minutes, Roger Ashby immediately remarked, “I think we’ve found the right one.” Roger was right, as Marilyn proved to be a dynamic addition to the show. She also showed her strength as an incisive and cordial interviewer, conducting memorable interviews with some of entertainment’s biggest names, including Sting, Harrison Ford, Shania Twain, Oprah Winfrey, Beyonce Knowles, Stevie Nicks, Lionel Richie, Vince Gill and Tina Turner
Earning numerous accolades throughout her career, Marilyn has won three Gemini Awards (including back-to-back Viewers Choice Awards) and garnered the 2005/2006 Toronto Sun 'Reader's Choice Award' for "Favourite Local TV/Radio Personality". In March 2006, Marilyn was given The Rosalie Award, honouring Canadian women who have paved the way for others in radio broadcasting (named for legendary Canadian radio pioneer Rosalie Trombley).
Marilyn is committed to many charities. An advocate for the fight against ovarian and breast cancer; Marilyn also supports and encourages organ donation and is one of the first members of the SickKids Constellation, a premier group of stars who support the efforts of the SickKids Foundation.
Marilyn has one son, Adam, who is currently pursuing his own career in radio.
